Updated Standings - thru December 26th

So this year's pool has officially become one for the history books, as Mother Nature intervened at the First Responder's Bowl in Dallas yesterday. For those of you who failed to read the fine print (and by "fine print", I mean invisible print), in the event of a Force Majeure event, discretion relies solely in the hands of the pool master on how to handle. After much deliberation via text with a semi-inebriated Doug Rice, among others, I have opted to treat the game as the NCAA did and render it a "no contest". This means no points are awarded. I realize this favors those who had fewer confidence points riding on that game, but as the great wordsmith and former president Bush 43 once said,
"Dem's the breaks."

Look, Armando Galarraga once threw a perfect game but Jim Joyce blew a call at first base that turned it into a one-hitter. That's what makes a perfect game so special -- and why baseball (and haphazard bowl pools) are a reflection of life. Sometimes you do everything exactly right and you still get the shaft. Furthermore, who am I to say that someone like Curt Wininger, who only had two confidence points riding on that game, isn't a prolific meteorologist who knew there was a strong likelihood of the game being called? The conservative player was closer to being right on this one, and I'm comfortable with my decision to award no points.

To submit a formal protest regarding this decision, you can start by drafting your complaint in writing. You can then immediately blow your nose into it and deposit it into the nearest receptacle. Be sure you wash your hands before touching anything else.

Back in action today at 1:30, where Temple & Duke meet in the Independence Bowl. The forecast in Shreveport, Louisiana is 68 degrees with light rain.
